Total Consecration

It is through the blessed Virgin Mary that Jesus Christ came into the world, and it is also through her that he must reign in the world.” St. Louis Marie de Montfort,

“True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary” at 1.

Many of you may have heard of the Marian devotion known as “Total Consecration” to Jesus Through Mary. The essence of this “True Devotion” is a decision that we wish to share fully in the life of Jesus Christ. Once we’ve made that fundamental decision, then it becomes clear that we must truly devote or consecrate ourselves to Mary in the same manner that Jesus did. Jesus, came into this world, as an infant, totally dependent on the Blessed Virgin Mary for sustenance, for food, for warmth, for protection, and ultimately, for love. He submitted himself and His Father’s plan to Mary while He was a man. If we wish to share fully in His life, to understand and live God’s plan, to get closer to Him, to begin to understand the love that embodies Jesus Christ and the Christian Way, we must do so in the same manner that Jesus did-  through His Mother, through Our Blessed Mother, Mary.

Once we do so, Mary embodies love and service for us. Mary’s entire existence personified those virtues- ardent love and faithful service.

St. Louis de Montfort proposed a devotion to Mary that is a “Total Consecration”: that we permit ourselves to become a “slave” of Mary as the “perfect” way to Jesus. In doing everything through, with, in and for Mary, we are led inevitably to her command to the servants at the wedding at Cana: “Do whatever He tells you.” John 2:5. When we submit ourselves to Mary, we are naturally led by her love and by her devotion directly to Him- for us to “do whatever He tells” us.

St. L ouis de Montfort bequeathed this spirituality to an order of priests known informally as “Montfort priests.” They have become the custodians of this “Secret” and “perfect” pathway to Jesus. RMPTR invites you to  visit the Montfort websites (www.montfortspirituality.org and www.montfortmissionaries.org) and especially to read St. Louis de Montfort’s treatises “True Devotion” and  “The Secret of Mary”.

We are pleased to announce that Fr. Hugh Gillespie and the Company of Mary in the United States are pleased to publish and release updated preparation materials prepared by the Montfort priests themselves that will more directly reflect the particular spirituality of Montfort himself. These materials are available at www.montfortpublications.org.

David and Valerie Calvillo, your RMPTR servants, have journeyed through the 33 day preparation process and the Act of Consecration  together as a couple and find that it has strengthened their marriage and family. We encourage individuals, couples and families to join classes in your area or to undertake the journey yourself to learn about and experience the True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. This process is for those who wish to Consecrate themselves for the first time or to renew their Consecration.

Pope John Paul II referred to St. Louis De Montfort’s consecration process as a “turning point in my life” and formed the underlying basis  for his papal motto – “Totus Tuus,” which means “all for you”- referring to our Blessed Mother.

RMPTR has read most of the Montfort works and credits the Montfort spirituality for a much closer and treasured relationship with the Mother of God- Our Mother. Gracias a Dios!

We know you’ll enjoy this beautiful journey.

To Jesus Through Mary.
