Marian Summer 2016
2016 will be a Marian Summer!
To celebrate the life of St. Louis de Montfort and the 300th anniversary of his passing, RMPTR is once again helping to coordinate a Marian Summer in our little corner of the world. We are blessed to be able to continue our efforts in deep South Texas, in the Diocese of Brownsville, and now in the Houston, Texas area!
This Summer’s Marian classes in the Rio Grande Valley culminate in a Mass of Total Consecration on the Feast Day of the Queenship of Mary on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Basilica of Nuestra Senora del Valle in San Juan, Texas at 7:00 p.m. The principal celebrant at the Mass of Total Consecration is Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM as several of his brother priests from throughout the Diocese of Brownsville, Texas, USA concelebrate at this special Mass.
Ave Maria! The Summer of 2016 will be a Marian Summer!
MASS OF TOTAL CONSECRATION. Monday, August 22, 2016. This Summer’s Marian classes culminate in a Mass of Total Consecration on the Feast Day of the Queenship of Mary on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Basilica of Nuestra Senora del Valle in San Juan, Texas at 7:00 p.m. The principal celebrant at the Mass of Total Consecration is Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM as several of his brother priests from throughout the Diocese of Brownsville, Texas, USA concelebrate at this special Mass.
The Mass is a standard liturgy with special time reserved for those who choose to do so to renew their baptismal vows and to undertake the Act of Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary. Many have been preparing over a 33 day period beginning on July 20th so this is a very meaningful and spiritually moving milestone for many.
We invite all to wear white garments to the Mass- a white shirt, blouse, or dress- to symbolize the purity accompanying the renewal of our baptismal vows. Those who attended the Mass of Consecration on the Feast of the Queenship of Mary in 2012 will recall the sea of beautiful white that filled the Basilica with 2,500 faithful Catholics renewing their baptismal vows as they promised to totally consecrate themselves, as holy slaves, to Jesus through Mary, his Most Holy Mother.
It is customary to make an offering of some sort to our Lady as a part of the Act of Total Consecration so typically a rose is offered to the “mystical rose” of our Lord. Roses will be sold by the Basilica at the doors to the church when entering to make the offering convenient and to support the work of the Basilica.
If you have previously undertaken the Act of Total Consecration according to the writings of St. Louis de Montfort, this Mass would be an excellent opportunity for you to renew your consecration and affirm your life to Jesus Through Mary, even if you haven’t been involved in this summer’s program.
All are invited. Families, children, and all are invited to help us gather on the Feast of the Queenship of Mary so that we can, like Jesus, follow the 4th Commandment and “honor our mother,” the same mother whom Jesus himself bequeathed to us from the Cross. John 19:27. Ours is to simply to accept this gift and take her into our homes and into our hearts.
Join us. Invite a loved one.
