“Sorrowful” Fridays permit us to reflect on the promise of Christianity- our sins are forgiven and we, too, can share in eternal life. As a convicted prisoner, Jesus was hung alongside two other convicts. One of the two recognized Jesus for who He was and demonstrated His faith with true humility and remorse for his sinful past. Jesus, from the cross, rewarded him with eternal life: “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” Luke 23: 43. Lord, I thank you for the promise of eternal communion with You; I ask for the grace of St. Dismas’ faith so that I, too, may recognize You alongside me and demonstrate my love and devotion to You.
