On “Sorrowful” Tuesdays, we encounter the temptation to wash our hands of engagement with the sinful world around us. Pilate washed his hands in a symbolic gesture of detachment from the sins perpetrated upon our Savior but yet his guilt remains. Matt. 27: 24. We, too, are tempted to convince ourselves that if we stay within our oasis, we are somehow not complicit with the sinfulness in our world. Lord, forgive me for “what I have failed to do” and grant me the courage to be Your voice and Your body in this world.
